Letter from former Knesset Speaker Dov Shilansky to Rabbi Joseph Gerlitzky,  Chairman of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace, March 4. 1996.

The Halachic ruling issued by Pikuach Nefesh signed by 200 prominent rabbis from all over Israel is well recorded in my memory.

This ruling has been portrayed by the media in a deceptive manner some out of ignorance and some intentionally and I don’t know which is worse.

It has been stated more than once from the podium of the Knesset and other public and private platforms , including myself, that it is dangerous to relinquish territory from Eretz Israel to our enemies and this will precipitate a war and bloodshed of Jews.

If such a statement is considered a crime then I am proud to be considered such a “criminal” and whoever wishes may take me to court. I hereby proclaim that I will not demand parliamentary immunity.
